Sculpt Nouveau Presto Stainless Black
Presto Stainless Black is designed to blacken all stainless steels. Supplied as a ready to use formula, Presto Stainless Black can be diluted with distilled water but usually is applied directly to the cleaned metal surface in full concentration. Presto Stainless Black will also work on zinc and galvanized, but will often develop into a brownish black or weathered finish.
Often Presto Stainless Black can form a blueish grey in the first or light coats. Apply more coats to get a darker finish. Usually it will take 3-4 coats to get a dark grey or black. To intensify the depth of colour, you may want to finish with the Patina Stain in Black.
Directions:
Use in a well ventilated area. Always wear goggles or face shield, vapor respirator, protective clothing, and gloves when handling the product. Store between 10-32*C.
1. Clean the metal with Sculpt Nouveau Metal Cleaner and Degreaser and a scotch-brite pad, rinse with water after a few minutes. You must sand with 60-80 grit sandpaper to remove the nickel and chrome layer for the patina to work. For more consistent and better reactions, sandblasting is recommended. Cleaning the surface is mandatory after sanding or handling with bare hands. DO NOT use Acetone or apply any solvent based cleaners.
2. Apply Presto Stainless Black patina to the metal surface by brush, sponge, roll or spray bottle. Which ever option you choose will react with the surface, but it may show characteristics based on application method. Spraying is the most common method. Normal reaction time is 3-5 minutes, though shorter or longer times will vary depending on climate variables, dilution rates, and desired finished colour. After using, remove the spray head and rinse with distilled water to avoid contamination from the metal spring. If possible, use an air pump spray bottle with no metal components.
3. Rinse the patina with distilled water to neutralize the acid and stop the reaction. You must also remove the black film developed by the patina. While rinsing, rub softly with a micro fibre towel or sponge.
4. Re-apply the patina as needed to achieve a darker or more uniform finish. Follow steps 2-4 if needed.
5. Heat the metal with a torch or heat gun to evaporate excess water in the metal. Then apply desired clear coat such as Clear Guard or Ever Clear.
